• 南京路で、久しぶりにぐっすりと眠ることができました

  個人的な用事で上海に来たのですが、外灘のおしゃれなホテルではなく、南京路歩行者天国にあるホテルを選びましたShanghai Jinjiang Metropolo East Nanjing Road Hotel, Off Bund。最初は便利な立地だけを理由に選んだのですが、3泊滞在してみて、長年上海の中心部に根を下ろしてきたこの老舗ホテルが、古き良き上海の温かさを滞在のあらゆる細部にまで織り込んでいることに気づき、驚きました。ベッドを変えると不眠症になる私のような人間でさえ、賑やかな街の中心で、久しぶりに安らかな眠りにつくことができました。
  チェックインの瞬間から、細やかな心遣いに感動しました。ドアマンは、少し雨に濡れたスーツケースを丁寧に持ち上げ、埃よけのカバーをかけてエレベーターに押し込んでくれました。受付係は私が情報確認中に二度咳をしたのに気づき、そっと温かいハーブティーを差し出してくれた。「上海の秋は朝晩が涼しいので、温かいお茶は喉に優しいですよ」と微笑みながら言った。高層階の部屋のドアを開けると、過剰な贅沢とは無縁の、静謐な雰囲気に包まれた。オフホワイトの柔らかな調度品は、重苦しさを感じさせず、窓際の小さなデスクからは南京路沿いのプラタナスの木々の梢が一望できた。半開きの窓から吹き込むそよ風は、階下から漂ってくる昔ながらのクリームケーキの甘い香りを運び、旅の疲れをたちまち癒してくれた。
  何よりも嬉しかったのは、喧騒の中にありながら、安らかな眠りにつけることだった。南京路の中心部に位置しているにもかかわらず、二重ガラスの防音窓が外の騒音を効果的に遮断し、通りの商店から聞こえる音楽さえも室内に響かなかった。マットレスの硬さはちょうど良く、古いホテルによくあるような沈み込みもなく、背中と首をしっかりと支えてくれました。80スレッドカウントの純綿の寝具は、洗濯後もふっくらと柔らかく、肌触りも抜群でした。二重構造の遮光カーテンは外の光を完全に遮断し、夜は階下の街灯の微かな光さえも感じさせませんでした。ベッドを変えた時によくある不眠症もなく、3晩連続で8時間ぐっすり眠ることができました。夜中に目が覚めると、ベッドの足元にある人感センサー付きのナイトライトがゆっくりと点灯し、その柔らかな光は眩しくありませんでした。バスルームではすぐに温水が出て、サーモスタット式のシャワーヘッドが体を優しく包み込み、長い一日の疲れを癒してくれました。
  日常のささやかな瞬間にも、クラシックホテルならではの細やかな心遣いが感じられました。朝、1階のレストランのビュッフェに行くと、オープンキッチンの女性が前日に私がワンタンを注文したことを覚えていて、頼む前に熱々のワンタンを運んできてくれました。自家製の卵クレープの細切りも添えて。濡れた傘をドアのそばに置き忘れると、戻ってきたら防水バッグに入れられてドア横の棚に置かれていました。ある夜、遅くまで買い物をした後、フロントの人が無料のキンモクセイケーキの小箱を渡してくれました。SNSで私の位置情報を見て、近くで買い物をしていることが分かったので、特別に温めておいてくれたとのことでした。
